Target Thornton For White Sox Saves

Sox Machine has the rundown on the battle to close in Bobby Jenks' absence:

Barring an outrageous matchup (three straight lefty-mashing righties), Thornton, a.k.a. Easy Heat, should be first in line with the ninth inning rolls around, with Dotel next in line.  At this point, Linebrink should be working the seventh.

How reliable is this guys blog?

CBS Sportsline updated Linebrink's profile on 7/8/08 and had this to say.

"LINEBRINK, DOTEL MIGHT GET SAVES: According to The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Bobby Jenks had a light session of catch on Sunday, but the club was still unsure if he will be ready to go on Tuesday against the Royals. That would mean the Sox could place him on the DL if he still has pain near the left scapula. RHP Scott Linebrink earned his first save in the closer's role on Sunday, and would stay in that spot if Jenks is on the DL. Octavio Dotel is another candidate.
(Updated 07/08/2008).

I think the guy who writes Sox Machine follows the White Sox a lot more closely than whoever wrote that blurb. Click the link, read his logic. It's more than sound. His opinion is not the kneejerk Linebrink answer, though, which is why I posted it.

Hmm...based on last night, looks like I was wrong here. Dotel got the chance, Thornton setting up.

I don't know...Thornton went 1 2/3 the night before, maybe thats why he did not go and Dotel got it. By the way sports exchange is the info service used by rotoworld, cbs, nbc and others. They quoted Guillen . "I like Linebrink," Guillen said of that ninth-inning spot. "I think Linebrink is more over the plate than Dotel. Dotel is in the picture because he's done it before. But I think he's doing so good down there (in the set-up role) that I don't want him involved."

But you know what. If Jenks is due back July 18, how many save chances are really expected anyway. I picked up Linebrink but am second guessing my decision now. I'm gonna hold him until Jenks is definitely back though, you never no if dl will linger.
